I was asked to finger a friend, but using some street smarts, was able to show I couldn’t do so.
First, I asked them what he had allegedly done. They wouldn’t say. I also asked when and where the incident occurred. Same response.
As they gave no particulars, which is what I expected when wording my own questions, I could not help.
They would not budge from their position, showing a bad faith effort on their part. If they asked the right questions, and gave the information requested, I would have had no choice but to turn him in.
I knew exactly what information they were looking for, and he was quite guilty, but by asking for information I knew they would not give, I was able to keep them from being able to prove it.
(It is a rarity for most people to take proper precautions, but they are very helpful.)
It is not criminal to make negotiation part of your daily routine.
